Want Eat Braaaaaains!

No new TLD will ever trump the work you already do on branding, search engine optimization, conversion, lead generation and traffic building. However, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

_ First: take off the tin foil hat. The domain industry isn't failing. Don't drop your domains. Watch the drop lists because the people who never had a decent plan to begin with will use the news to officially give up on the domain industry.

_ If you are mainly a virtual company ( dealing with customers less brick and mortar versus online ) consider emphasizing the domain extension into your brand including logos, letterhead, etc.

_ I don't believe this will create too much of a problem for the domain industry. We are an innovative bunch and will adapt. Take some time to plan how you might utilize the new TLDs. DomainNameWire.com has a three part series on how you might do this:

  • 12 Ways to Get Rich in the New TLD Gold Rush (Part 1)
  • How to Get Rich in the New TLD Gold Rush (Part Two)
  • Three More Ways to Cash in On New Top Level Domains

  • _ Avoid dumping your portfolio in panic. It is hard to brand a new extension, just like most times in the past. However, people are still stuck on .com which won't change for awhile. In addition, I cannot imagine too many people or companies shelling out money for these .... dare I say.... "vanity extensions".

You belong to one of the most creative group of entrepreneurs on the internet and together, we will adapt. Out of this will come new Frank Schillings and Rick Schwartzes. Now is the time to discover or revisit your overall strategy in domaining and become the pioneer this opportunity has enabled you to become.
