RSS and APIs are two ways to access data from a remote website. The difference between both methods are the output and control. You are probably familiar with RSS from the little orange icons you see on blogs. However, APIs are a much more complicated beast but the benefits are mutual for both the domainer and the website providing the API. Companies find that they actually increase value (and in most cases revenue) when they provide developers with access to their data. This allows people like me to provide domainers with branded solutions for their domains. The product domain solution is an example of just that; it taps into Commission Junction's API and therefore we can use brandability to upsell CJ's advertiser products. CJ is a light example. There are hundreds of APIs available for just about any type of development: travel, hotel, music, businesses, auctions, retail etc all waiting to be combined with a killer application and delivered to your website visitors. If you would like consulting on how APIs can work for your domain, feel free to drop me a line. Hits: 1086 Comments (0)
