| Data Mining Versus Domain Tasting |

High quality domains are still available waiting for you to register them. However, they are harder to find compared to ten years ago. There are two sure methods of finding available domains: data mining and domain tasting. I perfer data mining to domain tasting for several reasons. The chart below outlines the benefits and downfalls for both methods.
1) Expense Data mining is less expensive because you're not registering every domain name to taste. It's true that with tasting, you return the domain within the 5 day period to get a refund but you still have to pay 0.25 which adds quickly. Also, you have to purchase the software to mine the lists you want to taste.
2) Time Consumption While it seems like data mining is more time consuming, with tasting you have to not only come up with lists you want to search but return every few days to drop domains that aren't making revenue.
3) Benefit When you snag the right domain, the benefits are direct and immediate with data mining. However, with tasting you may have hundreds of names collecting pennies a day but alone aren't very valuable.
4) Parking and Development Data mining is good for domainers who like to develop their portfolio. You find domains that aren't taken but gaining in popularity. Developers have the know-how to take time and develop each name to increase worth. But for parking, domain tasting is better because you can find hundreds of domains with less effort that all earn PPC revenue.
5) Permanence Data mining is the most fair method of search for available domains. It's only a matter of time before ICANN makes it harder to taste domains.
6) Flip Rate Because data mining is a slower process, the flip rate is less compared to domain tasting. However, if chosen carefully, data mining can actually produce bigger returns due to better research capabilities.
There you have it. That's why I choose data mining to search for my available domains.
If you would like to enlighten visitors on why domain tasting would be a much better benefit than data mining, feel free to register and leave a comment below.
