Users are spending millions of dollars on virtual gifts on sites such as Facebook.com. I have no idea why users would spend so much on images but it seems to work best combined with community networking based websites. However, with forums I don't see virtual gifts becoming a commodity for users. What does work with forums are allowing members to upgrade towards special features such as highlighted text, PM storage and temporary stickied topics.
