| Google Knol to Compete with Wikipedia |

This looks promising. Google is coming out with their own wiki application that focuses more on the writer than Wikipedia does. However, the two do differ in features; Wikipedia being more collaborative and Knol giving more power to the auther.
"At this point, based only on the official blog post, Knol looks like a solid end-user publishing platform. I strongly doubt that it will put much of a hurt on Wikipedia, since its author focus makes it much the antithesis of the open, community-driven wiki model. Knol looks more like a Google version of About.com, Mahalo, or Squidoo."

Over time it will become a powerful tool for informational gathering. However will it replace Wikipedia? I doubt not. And as for Wikipedia, some pages can only be modified by certain groups of people so its not like there is a 100% difference here.
