Google Knol to Compete with Wikipedia

This looks promising. Google is coming out with their own wiki application that focuses more on the writer than Wikipedia does. However, the two do differ in features; Wikipedia being more collaborative and Knol giving more power to the auther.

 

"At this point, based only on the official blog post, Knol looks like a solid end-user publishing platform. I strongly doubt that it will put much of a hurt on Wikipedia, since its author focus makes it much the antithesis of the open, community-driven wiki model. Knol looks more like a Google version of About.com, Mahalo, or Squidoo.

Over time it will become a powerful tool for informational gathering. However will it replace Wikipedia? I doubt not. And as for Wikipedia, some pages can only be modified by certain groups of people so its not like there is a 100% difference here.
