If a domain name has been blacklisted for spam, your chances of being indexed in a search engine are almost slim to none. Obviously this is bad for business. Unless the domain name is a misspell or a type-in, stay away from blacklisted domains. Archieve.org - Check past development of a name.

Google.com - See what shows up under the quoted and unquoted form of the domain name and using only the keywords, with and without quotes.

Google Trends - How does the domain name's keyword perform?

KeywordSpy - See if the domain comes under any keywords, review potential competitors, etc.

Whois History - Review the owner history.

Forum Search - Do a forum search for the domain name in major domain forums.
