The answer is a vague: it depends on what you are doing. Every domain
investor has a different overall goal for investing in domain names. For
example, I purchase names to develop and hold. Rarely do I sell. Others might
invest in domain names to flip quickly. They need to ensure the name they invest
in is resellable. But is .com always king? Take a look at the recent domain
sales as reported by DNJournal:
Credit.fr - $851,875
Website.de - $141,610
Play.ca - $34,000
.fr (France) , .de (Federal Republic of Germany) and .ca (Canada) are all
country top level domains (more examples at DNJournal) but the point is they are
not .com.
Within Alexa.com's top 500 sites we have:
Mail.ru
Orkut.com.br
Imageshack.us
Mixi.jp
Wretch.cc
Free.fr
Does the domain extension really matter? It depends on what you are doing. :)
The message I am trying to get across is there are opportunities beyond our
little industry for you to earn revenue with domain names. Domainers are a drop
in the bucket compared to the vast audience out there. You are not limited to
flipping and you are not limited to .com.
So, get your butt out there and earn some revenue!
