Domain INVESTING and Domain Development

Quick....What does the term "domain investing" mean to you? Now...what does the term "domain development" mean to you? The terms (and methods) are different but the overall meaning is the same. Before I explain what I'm referring to, look at this post by LazyDomaining.com:

3. Investment

If you are don’t have the domain development skill or the interest to get into it, then you can outsource the work ofcourse for a cost. You can find developers at Namepros & DP who can do minisites for $25-$50 including the content for the minisite. This is to give you a general idea of the investment you will have to consider.

I am sad to see the word "investment" and "minisite" under the same category. ( I'm not picking on you, Lazy Domaining, you are just the latest example :) )

Parking, minisite development and mass domain development can be effective methods to monetize a domain. There is no argument there. But these methods hardly focus on core business development. If you are investing in domain names without a business plan, you are running in this industry blind. You should have at least (1) domain that focuses on business development for your domain portfolio. Does this change the way you look at the above words?

In order to grow in the domain industry, you should focus less on the dying pay-per-click and more on generating leads, sales and reoccurring revenue that make at least one domain in your portfolio work hard for you month after month, year after year. THAT should be what defines "domain investing" and "domain development".

I assume you feel developing minisite is not really an investment. I beg to differ. More on http://lazydomaining.com/what-...nvestment/
