The Value of Newsletter Subscribers

DomainShane.com posed a question on March 29th: What is the Value of a Newsletter Subscriber?.

One particular sentence I want to highlight is: "I’m looking for people that are genuinely interested in what I have to sell."

Why Publish a Newsletter?

Newsletter subscribers are indeed a way to help monetize a website and grow traffic. How many visitors do you suppose your website receives per day? 100? 1,000? 100,000? No matter the number, that traffic comes and that traffic goes on a daily reoccurring basis. What percentage of your traffic do you suppose are return visitors? How many people do you suppose sign up for membership or buy your products or interact with certain elements of your site? How many are ideal visitors for your niche?

The fact is, you are allowing a certain percentage of targeted traffic slip out on a daily basis never to be seen or heard from again.

Membership Sites

Community driven websites are hard to establish and grow. It takes several special combinations of development and marketing to jump start a social focused project in the right direction. However, a newsletter can be an easy way to capture opt-in visitor data for those who have decided not to commit to some form of membership, product or service. This visitor has now become a prospect instead of an IP that you will never see again.

Relationships Begin At All Levels

Building a relationship with site visitors is key whose roots can begin at any level. For instance: the spectators can have the option of a newsletter, targeted visitors can have the option of actual membership, consumers can have the option of purchasing a service or product, etc. Don't give visitors a reason NOT to commit to your website in some form. Sometimes we miss the apple seeds because we are too busy looking for the apple tree.

"If we're growing, we're always going to be out of our comfort zone." ~ John Maxwell

"Don't wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful." ~ Mark Victor Hansen

"The great thing in the world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving." ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes
