In Part I, we discussed several types of keywords that users often search for including generic keywords, questions, geo locations, etc. If you look at targeting keywords by type and not just generic phrases, it becomes easier to obtain traffic for popular, however overlooked, types.
Names & Places of Offline Entities As popular as the internet is today, not every individual, company or place has an existence online. You can take advantage of this by simply doing a bio, travel review, service review, etc and include relevant contact details. This also opens the door to an advertising or development deal by using your traffic to further promote awareness.
Names & Places of Virtual Environments Online gaming is a hot topic especially if you mention WoW or SecondLife. However, inside these virtual environments are loads of unsearchable data that you can review or provide more information about. Players obsessively search for secrets, tips or supplies to advance themselves virtually.
Causes, Events, Holidays, etc. Rare social events make great headliners just the same as rare and interesting news stories. It may take some digging around but who knew events such as Square Root Day actually exist or that Papa Johns had fundraising pizza cards?
Software and Script Names Love the software? Hate the software? Dissect and review it! The goldmine starts with what you already use on your computer. People often search for these reviews to assist them with a buying making decision or who want help making the most of their investment.
Creative Solutions to Common Problems Do you know an environmental friendly solution to unclog toilets? What about removing cat hair from a couch? Or perhaps you just want to have a little fun like this guy. The entertainment value is priceless. The sillier, more creative, more ridiculous you get, the better. In addition, this is an area that can quickly reach viral marketing.
Solutions to Uncommon Problems Same as above but opposite. Once, I needed to disable "forward as attachment" in thunderbird and it took me hours to find a simple answer. When I was done, I documented the result which turned out to be one of the best entry articles to my site. The same can go for offline problems. For instance: ways to wash clothes when your washing machine breaks down, emergency kits when you break down in the middle of nowhere during winter, etc.
Synonyms Use the tilde ~ character in front of a keyword and Google will return keywords that it believes are relevant. For instance, ~tour returns tourism, travel, map, tourism guide, etc. This also assists with finding alternative keyword domains if the one you want is taken. I avoid using an actual thesaurus with this one because we want what Google thinks, not the dictionary.
Errors I started the habit of documenting my php errors a few months back mainly for my own purposes. The search engines LOVE them. People who run into the same errors need direction on possible solutions. The same goes for computer errors, software errors, script errors, etc. The best route is to start documenting the exact error and how you found the solution as they happen.
