I Don’t Have Time to Reach My Goals. Or Do You?

~ Press On ~

A Dreamer’s dream
Of goal end tales
And snail pace progress
Of Lengthy sweat hells
His philosophy; onward
Drip drop of hard luck
Flows as a river
If everyday adds up

Mental roadblocks are false excuses that prevent us from doing something we want to achieve or accomplish. One of the worst mental roadblocks that could ever keep you from working on your goals and dreams is the “I do not have the time” roadblock.

Decide Where You Want to Be (But Don’t Over-Plan)

Do not set yourself up for failure by creating unreachable goals. For instance: “I want to be a millionaire by age 25“. It is more realistic to say “I want to be an entrepreneur and quit my day job within the next year“.

Sometimes people are comfortable planning out every step to their end goal. However, I like to leave that road open. Life happens, things change and I want to adapt to those changes. But however way you get there is up to you.

Decide to Be Happy Right Now

Ever told yourself “I would be happy if I had ____”. Maybe certain dreams have to wait but being happy never has to wait. You can be happy with the “now” even in the midst of trying to achieve your goals by deciding that “now” is “good enough“. Yes, eventually, you will get where you want to be but never, ever put happiness and fun on hold.

Cut Out the Time Wasters

Identify areas where you waste time per day: television, social sites, anything that distracts you from achieving your goal (with the exception of family & education, of course). Decide which of these need to be a) cut totally from your life and b) limited to certain time frames per day or per week.

Weigh Your Options

Maybe you want to go back to college but single parenthood prevents you from dedicating most of your time to achieve that goal. How about taking just one or two classes per semester? What about online classes?

Or what if there is a website you want to build but lack the skills or finances? How about proposing a revenue share deal to a freelance developer or constructing a business plan to an investor?

Drip Drop of Hard Luck

Good fortune is what happens when opportunity meets with planning.

~ Thomas Edison

Where were you five years ago? Where will you be five years from now? Five years are going to pass and it is your choice whether to be in the same spot you are in now or start moving today toward where you want to be. BUT it is a daily progress and perseverance that vanishes the “I do not have the time” roadblock.

“’Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”

~ Calvin Coolidge
