Tools: Using Keyword Pad to Find Available Domains

Keyword Pad is a free download developed by Softnik Technologies that helps you compile keyword combinations. I like to use this tool if I am searching for available domains that have similar properties such as adding a suffix (the, buy, etc) or various prefixes (world, street, forums, blog, etc). You can do similar using Excel but I like the lightweight, simple features of Keyword Pad versus using Excel.

As you can see, Keyword Pad is divided into three main sections: Make Input List, Make Changes and Handle Output.

You will need a niche list to start combining keywords to search for
available domains. You can get these lists online by doing a simple search. Let’s start with a states list. Go to Google and type “list
of states
“. Go to the first result (List of US States in alphabetical order) and copy the states.

Copy/paste the list in a text editor and use a replace feature to get rid of the stars and spaces. Make sure every state remains on its own line.

From Keyword Pad’s “1. Make Input List” section, click the + Add
button and paste your list in the text box. Press “Ok”.

Make Input List, Make Changes and Handle Output

You will see the states list is now appended into Keyword Pad and each on an individual numbered line.

Click on the first line, hold down the Shift button and click on the
last line to highlight all keywords.

From the second menu (2. Make Changes), choose Modify and
Add Words At End
.

Let’s pretend that we want to search for [state]Vacations, so in the Word to Add text box, type in “Vacations” and press Ok. Your results should look like something below:

Your output options vary but my favorite is choosing Export (from the 3. Handle Output menu), All to Clipboard and go directly to bulk check for availability but you can compile text lists for later, save certain highlights words, or use the Highlight button for further sorting.

Play around with the importing options (you have the ability to important from text files) and the Make Changes menu.
